However, we thought we might as well dive into the differences of all the Golf trims TSI, TDI, GTI, & R. Volkswagen tends to use many abbreviations when it comes to describing their vehicles and trims. So to make it easy to comprehend, we’ll start off by breaking down the above abbreviations. TSI, stands for Turbocharged Stratified Injection, and it is used to describe the turbocharged engines in many of their vehicles. The TSI badge can be found on the base model of the Volkswagen Golf or on top of many engine bays. GTI, which stands for Grand Tourer Injection, is Volkswagen Golf’s performance model. TDI, which stands for Turbocharged Direct Injection, is Volkswagen’s identification of a diesel engine. GTI Engines The MK6 GTI was also built on the Volkswagen PQ35 platform, but featured a TSI engine that put down 210hp & 207lb-ft of torque. While the MK7 GTI was built on the Volkswagen MQB platform and featured a TSI engine that put down 217hp & 258lb-ft of torque. However, with the MK7 GTI, they released a performance package, often referred to as simply “PP”, that put down 227hp & 258lb-ft of torque due to a software tweak. Other Differences Golf TSI vs Golf GTI Engines aside, there are multiple differences when it comes to the interior, MSRP, fuel economy, and performance options. On the interior, the only real difference is that the GTI can have leather seats or Clark Plaid upholstery. Exterior Both the Golf and the GTI are sporty modern cars on the exterior, but the GTI sports a couple of exterior enhancements aside from the GTI badge. The GTI, being a more powerful engine, gets fewer mpg coming in at 32mpg on the highway and 24mpg in the city for a combined 27mpg. On the topic of engines, the GTI’s engine is not near as reliable as the Golf TSI’s. This is mostly because many car enthusiasts tend to modify the TSI engine. However, there were factory issues with the TSI engines as well. Performance Next is the performance upgrades. Given the GTI is the Golf’s performance-oriented trim, it had to get some performance upgrades. The GTI features a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission which is not found in the Golf TSI’s. Also, there were some suspension upgrades such as a performance monitor, adaptive chassis control, extra driving mode selections, and upgraded stiffer suspension. Cost As you can imagine, with the interior, performance, and engine upgrades that the GTI boasts over the Golf, the GTI is more expensive. The 2020 Base Golf TSI comes in at $23,195 MSRP, while the GTI comes in $28,595 MSRP. If you are looking for a more reliable and more fuel-efficient vehicle, go with the Golf TSI. However, if you’re looking for a more sporty and more tunable vehicle, then the GTI is for you and the extra money is worth it. Volkswagen Golf TDI Since we’ve discussed the differences between the Golf TSI and GTI, we’ll go into the TDI. As stated above, TDI stands for Turbocharged Direct Injection. In all TDI-badged Volkswagen vehicles, you will find a diesel engine with direct injection. The Volkswagen Golf TDI was first introduced in the MK3 Golf 1991-1997, which was very innovative back in the day. Volkswagen makes a lot of great cars, and there are quite a few options available for customers to choose from. For example, the VW Golf is the classic small car that rivals the likes of the Honda Civic or the Toyota Camry. That said, the VW Golf has a cousin, the VW GTI, and while these cars are very much related, there are quite a few differences too. The big difference between the Volkswagen Golf and GTI Just like VW of Palm Springs wrote, the GTI isn’t actually that different from the regular Golf. In fact, technically speaking, the GTI is called the Golf GTI since it’s more or less a trim of the Golf. Like its name may imply however, the GTI is a performance-oriented trim, and it turns the Golf from being a boring but useful small car into a fast and furious little beast. The Golf has only one engine option, according to Consumer Reports, and that’s a four-cylinder engine that gets 147-hp. This is a pretty run-of-the-mill engine that isn’t really sporty but, at the very least, it’s relatively fuel efficient as it gets about 25 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on highways. The GTI, meanwhile, comes with a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gets, according to Consumer Reports, 228-hp. While there’s usually a trade-off between horsepower and fuel economy, this powerful little engine still gets an estimated 24 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on highways, according to VW of Palm Springs. Smaller differences between the two Volkswagens A bigger engine isn’t the only difference, however, and the GTI also comes with other performance enhancements. VW of Palm Springs said that the GTI also has a performance monitor and adaptive chassis control. Unsurprisingly, these upgrades make the GTI a far more exciting car to drive, as it can go fast and also drive smoothly and comfortably, according to Consumer Reports. But upgrades don’t come free, and the GTI is significantly more expensive than the Golf is. VW of Palm Springs wrote that the Golf has an MSRP of about $20,000, while the GTI has an MSRP of over $25,000. To be fair to the Golf however, like Consumer Reports wrote, the Golf drives pretty well, too. And, while Consumer Reports admits that the GTI is the more popular car, the Golf does have fewer flaws than the GTI does. Consumer Reports wrote that the GTI has a single flaw, and that has to do with its “spotty reliability.” On the other hand, the Golf had, according to Consumer Reports, no flaws whatsoever. Are the Volkswagen Golf and GTI good cars? Overall, Consumer Reports really liked the Golf. Consumer Reports wrote that, “If car buying were purely a rational process, a car like the Golf would be the only one most people would need.” That being said, car buying doesn’t seem to be a rational process, since, unfortunately, the 2021 model year of the Golf will be the last model year for the Golf in the Like most models that get discontinued, the Golf isn’t selling that well in America, and VW only sold about 22,000 of them in 2020. For comparison, popular models of other cars routinely sell that many units in a single month. Fortunately, even though the GTI can be seen as a trim of the Golf, the GTI is so popular that VW is not discontinuing it in America. As such, this will probably be the final and perhaps the biggest difference between the two cars. New GTIs will still be available in America in the near future, while the 2021 Golf will be the last model year for the foreseeable future.

O Volkswagen Golf de nova geração chegou equipado com o motor TSI da famĂlia EA 211, o mesmo já usado em modelos como Audi A1 e Audi A3 menos potentes, dotado de turbocompressor, quatro cilindros e injeção direta de combustĂvel e capaz de beber somente Golf, o TSI recebeu reajustes para desenvolver 140 cavalos de potĂŞncia e 25,5 kgfm de torque, já a partir de primeira leva do Golf TSI alemĂŁo chegou ao Brasil com preços entre R$ e R$ para o Golf Highline TSI manual, com opção do câmbio DSG por R$ 7 mil a preços variavam conforme o pacote escolhido Standard, Elegance, Exclusive e Premium. Ele podia receber tambĂ©m teto solar elĂ©trico, rodas aro 17, central multimĂdia mais aprimorada e assistente de estacionamento com câmera de o Golf GTI TSI DSG tinha preço inicial de R$ podendo chegar a R$ com o pacote Exclusive.
